These are industry norms, not hard rules. A wide, short wordmark can go to 4.5"; a tall, square badge often looks best at about 3" wide.
Width vs height: size by shape
- Wide logos (wordmarks, horizontal logos): size by width, 3.5"–4".
- Square or round logos (badges, crests): size by height, about 2.5"–3", so they don't look oversized.
- Tall logos: cap the height at about 3" and let the width follow.
Where to place a left chest logo
- Vertical: on adult shirts, about 7"–9" down from the high point of the shoulder (where the shoulder seam meets the collar). A quick check: roughly 3–4 finger widths below the collar, or level with the second or third button on a polo or dress shirt.
- Horizontal: center the logo about 4" from the center front toward the wearer's left, roughly halfway between the center line and the armhole seam.
- Pockets: if the shirt has a chest pocket, center the logo about 1" above it, or embroider the pocket before it's sewn on.
Move it up slightly on youth sizes, and on women's shirts place it so it sits above the bust line.
How small can text be?

Size changes the digitizing
