Embroidery file edits and fixes
If a file is puckering, leaving gaps, breaking thread or sewing too slowly, the problem is usually in the digitizing, not your machine. We repair, resize, re-letter and convert existing files. Edits to files we made are free for 30 days. Files from elsewhere start at $15, or we'll quote a full re-digitize if that's the better fix.

Why you shouldn't just resize a DST
DST and most machine formats are stitch files: they store every needle position but not the shapes behind them. When you scale a DST up by 30%, the stitches just stretch apart and leave gaps. Scale it down and they pile up into a hard lump that breaks needles. Most machines handle about ±10% safely. Beyond that we rebuild the design at the new size so the density, underlay and pull compensation are recalculated properly.
Format conversions
Need a PES from a DST, or a JEF for a friend's Janome? Simple conversions are included free with any order. Converting a file we didn't make is part of our edits service. Keep in mind that DST files don't store thread colors, so we'll ask you for the color sequence.
How to send a file for fixing
- Upload the original file (DST, PES, EMB, etc.) and, if possible, the original artwork.
- Add a photo of the sew-out that went wrong, plus your fabric, stabilizer and machine.
- We'll tell you whether a fix will work or a re-digitize is the better value, before you pay.

Can you edit a DST file?
Yes. We can change text, remove elements, recolor, resize and fix density or sequencing. For large changes we rebuild the affected parts from scratch for a clean result.
How much can I resize an embroidery file?
About 10% up or down is usually safe on the machine. Beyond that, the file should be rebuilt at the new size so density and underlay are correct.
Are edits free?
Edits to files we digitized are free for 30 days. Fixes to files from other digitizers start at $15.
